Educational

Students learn about the dangers of counterfeit pills made with lethal fentanyl.

The Problem

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than heroin that is taking the lives almost 200 Americans every single day. Out of the entire nation, the state of Florida had the second highest number of overdose deaths in 2021. Fentanyl is a killer without prejudice. It doesn’t care whether its victims are wealthy or poor, young or old, conservative or liberal. Fentanyl takes lives indiscriminately and ruthlessly, leaving a wake of tragedy and devastation in its path. Despite teen drug use decreasing, drug overdose deaths among people ages 18 to 24 have never been higher. Ordinary teens, who believe they are taking genuine brand-name prescription pills, are being killed by counterfeit ones made with fentanyl that are being distributed on apps like Snapchat and are indistinguishable from legitimate ones, even to seasoned DEA special agents.

Our Approach

NEO educates teens across Florida about counterfeit pills made with fentanyl with a new approach: interactive, high-impact 20-minute presentations for students, by young people and for young people. These engaging presentations will leave students informed and warned about fentanyl. Armed with this knowledge, students will know to never experiment with pills.
